Since 2013, the United Nations has celebrated the International Day of Happiness on March 20 in recognition of the important role that Happiness plays in the lives of people around the world. However, happiness today is seriously threatened due to the global pandemic that grips us.
The origin of the International Day of Happiness is a beautiful story. It was the Kingdom of Bhutan, a small country in South Asia in the Himalayas, that proposed this day to the UN. It turns out that the king of Bhutan more than 40 years ago, and when he was only 16, he decided that the philosophy of his government was based on the happiness of his subjects. And for this he invented the concept of Gross National Happiness (GNF), instead of Gross Domestic Product. Isn’t it cool?
It’s calculated by measuring nine points: psychological well-being, time use, community vitality, culture, health, education, environmental diversity, standard of living, and government.
Even if it is just one day, this allows organizations around the world, fighting for human rights, to mobilize to raise awareness among citizens.
It also represents an excellent opportunity to deliver a message of hope and solidarity to all those who suffer as a result of war, disease, hunger and inequality.
The world demands a total change of consciousness of all its inhabitants. With these decisions, the first steps are being taken, although there is still a long way to go so that men can live in a world full of happiness and that this is the legacy that can be left to future generations.
Although it sounds like utopia, at Toldos Guardamar we think that the day of happiness is possible! Today, human beings can think that happiness is a universal right and not a simple chimera difficult to achieve.
