UNESCO Member States designated the first Thursday of November of each year, which this 2020 falls on November 5, as the International Day against Violence and Harassment at School, including Cyberbullying, thus recognizing that the Violence in the school environment in all its forms violates the rights of children and adolescents, health and well-being.

The beginning of the change.

The proposal to establish an international day by France, Mexico and Morocco highlights the need to really address the root causes of violence and to promote a culture of respect for the rights of students and zero tolerance with respect to violence.

We know what works; from strong engagement and strong collaboration between partners and communities, to data improvement, teacher education, and positive school environments. It is time to fully apply these methods so that we can end the devastating situation of school violence.

How serious can be the problem of violence and bullying in the school environment, including cyberbullying?

According to the UNESCO report that presents the most recent and complete data on these issues, almost one in three students has been physically harassed or assaulted by their peers at school at least once in the last month. Bullying online or through mobile phones has also increased, and data shows that the majority of student victims of cyberbullying have been bullied at school first, and more now with the social distance. A great percentage of those harmed by bullying have been victims of this situation both online and offline.

At Toldos Guardamar we are aware of the importance of this issue for the future of our children, and from a very young age we must, both parents and teachers, instill in them values of tolerance, inclusion, and companionship. What they learn today, they will be tomorrow.
