International Book Day is celebrated every April 23 worldwide with the aim of promoting reading and the publishing industry. In addition, this same day is also the day of copyright, as a way to protect the intellectual property rights of authors.
It was through UNESCO, which in November 1995 decreed that it be April 23, since on that date the birth or death of some of the most illustrious figures in literature such as Miguel de Cervantes, Shakespeare or Garcilaso de La Vega is celebrated.
Books are an inexhaustible source of wisdom, which help man transform his inner and outer world. Books are tools for opening to new knowledge and valuable resources that help in the development of creativity and cognitive abilities of children.
Although readers may have increased due to confinements, for writers it is especially a very bad time. Not so for the established best-sellers, but for the vast majority of writers, who need presentations, book signings and conferences, in order to get their books to the public. With months of closed bookstores and the rest with limited public, the author-reader contact becomes very complicated.
That is why, as a result of this global crisis, sales of digital books, including audiobooks, have increased.
We imagine that this evolution, which had to come, has now been accelerated by circumstances.
At Toldos Guardamar we pay tribute to all those world dreamers who provide us with knowledge and entertainment in a difficult time like the present.
