On July 3, the International Free Day of plastic bags is celebrated to raise awareness of the need to reduce single-use plastic bags and promote responsible consumption.
The reasons are well known. In a few generations we have gone from our grandmothers using a wicker basket or a cart for years to consuming more than 200 plastic bags a year per person, representing more than 500 billion bags in the world. To this is now added a significant number of disposable masks and gloves as a result of the Covid-19.
500 billion bags cannot evaporate on their own from the earth, and the consequences for fauna, flora, the environment and ourselves are catastrophic.
For this reason, on the International Free Day of Plastic Bags, Toldos Guardamar propose the following:
1. Effectively reduce the consumption of single-use bags.
2. Prefer to responsible consumption, where the main function of the container – the transport of the purchase – is with long-lasting or reusable systems.
3. Demand that governments order regulations and environmental taxation measures to make possible the effective reduction of the bags, and actions of environmental awareness and communication, and do not depend on the will of the commercial sector and consumers.
4. Encourage the application of dissuasive measures for the consumption of bags, such as the incorporation of their environmental cost.
5. Inform so that citizens, municipalities, social entities and the commercial sector bet on this cultural and environmental change, and ask their governments, administrations, commercial sector … to bet on these measures to prevent pollution and waste.
Toldos Guardamar is against the use of single-use plastic bags. For this reason we give away our ecobags, which you can collect both at our headquarters in San Fulgencio, and in our Guardamar store. They are the safe and effective bet of Toldos Guardamar.
