The World Recycling Day is celebrated on May 17 with the objective of raising awareness in society about the importance of treating waste as it corresponds, not to contribute to climate change, and thus protect the environment.
The word “recycling” is understood as the process by which a material or product already used, in principle destined for waste, is subjected to a treatment to obtain a raw material or a new product. That is, a waste that is reintroduced into the life cycle, which allows us to make better use of natural resources, reduce the environmental impact of our consumption habits and devise creative ways to redesign our objects and give them new life.
The origin of the symbols of recycling is linked to Gary Anderson, a senior at the University of Southern California, winner of the design competition organized by the Container Corporation of America as part of the first Earth Day in 1970, the which created a logo based on the Möbius Band in the form of a triangle, where each of its three arrows represents one of the steps of the recycling process: collection of materials for recycling, the recycling process itself and the purchase of these recycled products , so that the system continues again and again.
Each year the popularity of this key date for ecological awareness has been gaining strength, making more countries that are added to propagate during the day, quality information on everything related to the recycling of different types of waste.
