Unfortunately and although we do not like to remember it, the world is full of contaminated places, but we are not talking about spaces that have a large landfill, for example, but we are talking about true ecological disasters as we will see below.
The place that has the dubious honor of being the most polluted on the planet is in Russia. It is Lake Karachay, which receives waste from a nuclear power plant that leads to the dumping of up to 120 million curies of radioactivity. This place is so highly polluted that any exposed person could die in just one hour.
If you thought your city is very polluted, you’re probably wrong, unless you live in Linfen, China. It is considered to be the most polluted city on the planet. It is an eminently industrial city and it is said that spending a day outdoors is like having smoked 50 cigarettes. Neither can the laundry be hung in open spaces, because it ends up dirtier than when it entered the washing machine.
In the Pacific Ocean, next to Hawaii, is the one known as garbage island, with an extension of 692,000Km². There are millions of waste, especially plastics, which drift, although they are usually always in the same area due to the circular movement of the equatorial currents.
In Indonesia we have another mass of infectious water, the Citarum River. It is considered the dirtiest and most polluted in the world, but despite this, five million people depend on its waters to survive.
We finish again in Russia, in Dzerzhinsk, the city with the highest chemical pollution in the world, with a mortality that exceeds by 260% the birth rate. Between 1930 and 1998, more than 300,000 tons of chemical waste were deposited in the vicinity of this city.
