Although it is not a holiday, this day commemorates the slaughter of children in Judea, ordered by Herod. Despite the fact that the origin of this celebration is a bloody historical event, currently December 28 makes us smile.

Origin

This day of mourning was kept for the believers of the Catholic faith. However, in the Middle Ages took it upon themselves to combine this rite with another more pagan one known as the “feast of fools” celebrated between the days between Christmas and New Years. It is said that these festivals were so scandalous that the Church, in its eagerness to calm the eccentricities of the participants, decreed that the day of the Holy Innocents be celebrated. Thus began the pagan religious union of these festivals, where jokes of all kinds are played on the most careless.

Celebration

Tradition calls for a paper doll to be hung on the back of everyone who can. Pranks are played on friends and family. Even in the written press and on television absurd facts or implausible events are related, but everyone accepts the jokes. On December 28 you have to take the day in a good mood.

And with this good humor is how Toldos Guardamar wants to commemorate this day, so that we can say goodbye to this difficult year with a smile on our face. It is the day for jokers, so that we can all bring out that childish and playful side that we carry inside, and where we should not take too seriously depending on what news we receive. Everything can be the result of that crazy day. What is not a joke is that these days they can take advantage and pay us a visit to have a little cava, a sweet, and take a gift from us. We are in a totally safe space.
