To make a good maintenance of our awning is something indispensable and so it is to clean it. To be as good as new, the first thing we have to do is have patience, because it is not cleaned in 10 minutes. It will take time, but the results will be as we expect.
Tips to clean the awning and leave it as new
The first thing to do is to completely unroll the awning and hit it lightly with a broom or pass the vacuum cleaner to remove the dust, provided that we do not run any kind of risk in doing so. This will eliminate much dust and insects that have remained attached.
With water and neutral soap we soak the awning, both on the outside and inside. We must use a neutral soap and avoid products that may be strong or abrasive and may damage the fabric of the awning. If we prefer, in the market, we can find specific detergent for cleaning awnings.
After soaking, rub with the brush, rubbing well in those areas where we see that there is more dirt. We will do the same for the full extent of the awning and to wash it we can use a garden hose, ensuring that it is cold water.
We will go slowly removing all the foam that has been generated from the friction of the brush with the fabric of the awning and we can see if we have finished with the stains or not. If not, we will repeat the operation using a little more force and wash again.
When all the stains have been eliminated, it should be allowed to air dry, so we must bear in mind that when we clean the awning, it should be in a nice day, not only for more comfort but also because it can dry quickly. We should never roll or pick up the awning without it being completely dry; we can not do it when it is still wet because we can cause the appearance of mold.
