With the arrival of summer, sunbathing is one of the most common activities that can be done, which will allow us to get tanned, but also take advantage of the health benefits offered by the sun to produce vitamin D. It is related to the formation and robustness of the bones as well as being part of many of the metabolic functions of the organism.
The absence of this vitamin is associated with different diseases such as muscle weakness, osteoporosis, rickets and, in the worst cases, with the presence of some tumors. This has been stated by the Spanish Association of Dermatology and Venereology.
From Toldos Guardamar we care about your health and we encourage you to sunbathe whenever you can but taking special care with exposure times. Sunbathing in days and hours of maximum radiation, may eventually lead to the development of skin cancer in the worst case but also flaccidity of the skin, depigmentation, wrinkles, appearance of spots and photoageing among others.
How much time is it advisable to sunbathe? Dermatologists agree that it requires little time of exposure to the sun to achieve adequate levels of vitamin D.
Although there is no consensus on what is the recommended amount of time, it is considered that 20 minutes three days a week is enough. Those 20 minutes do not have to be continued but can be taken throughout the day. In addition, they do not have to be in the whole body but in an extension similar to what could be a hand.
In this way, getting tanned will take longer, but the risks associated with the exposure of the sun’s rays will be minimized.
