Grandfather’s Day or Grandparents’ Day is a commemorative day dedicated to grandparents within the family, which complements Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. This day is celebrated only in some countries, with differences in the name, motivation and date. In countries with a Christian culture, July 26 has been chosen, as it is the day on which the Catholic liturgy commemorates Saint Joachim and Saint Anne, parents of the Virgin Mary and, therefore, grandparents of Jesus.
“A grandfather is a person with silver in his hair and gold in his heart.”
Grandparents, basic pillars of all modern families, help us in our daily tasks: they help us with the children, they continue to teach us saving or cooking tricks, they make sure that we too are well and happy … And, furthermore, now that we are adults we find an affinity very close to friendship that was impossible to have when we were children and we needed limits and norms for our education and development. For all that, and more, they deserve their Grandparents Day.
“Grandma serves kisses, cookies, and advice every day.”
Because our parents will always be our parents, we remind them of their value to us on Father’s Day and Mother’s Day, but our children also have the right to celebrate with their grandparents all the love that flows between them in a bidirectional way. They have been very hard days without being able to have her grandchildren around.
From Toldos Guardamar we do not want to see that there are more grandparents forgotten as if they were part of the past. For this reason, let’s celebrate this day with them to remind them that they continue to be that fundamental part of the family.
