Every December 10, the international community celebrates Human Rights Day. The anniversary commemorates the date the United Nations General Assembly approved the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, in 1948.
When the General Assembly approved it, with 48 States in favor and eight abstentions, the declaration was considered a “common ideal for which all peoples and nations should strive” in order to “ensure, by progressive measures of a national and international nature, its universal and effective recognition and application “.
Although the Declaration, with its wide range of political, civil, social, cultural and economic rights, is not a binding document, it has stimulated the creation of more than 60 human rights instruments, which together constitute international human rights norms. Today, the general consensus of all United Nations Member States on the fundamental human rights promulgated in the Declaration further strengthens it and highlights the importance of those rights in our daily lives.
Human Rights are the epicenter of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), since without human dignity we cannot promote sustainable development. Human rights are driven by progress on all the SDGs, and the SDGs are driven by progress in human rights. Both are interconnected.
At Toldos Guardamar we are aware of the difficult time the entire society is going through, not only in terms of health, but at all levels. And for that very reason it is necessary to remember everything that unites us, what makes us human. We are convinced that, having a strong base, we will succeed.
