The torrijas (French toast) are one of the best known and traditional gastronomic elaborations in Spain. They are consumed a lot during Easter and can be done in many different ways. In Toldos Guardamar we want to share with you a recipe of torrijas very easy to make and with which you will taste delicious.
For its preparation we will need:
Heat the milk to cook in a pot with half the sugar and incorporate the cinnamon stick and the orange and lemon peels. We will remove the milk well so that the sugar dissolves and the milk is aromatized.
On the other hand, we will cut the stale bread into slices about 2 or 3 centimeters wide and we will reserve them until the milk has acquired the mixture of flavors. Let the milk cool and soak the bread for about an hour.
We will put a pan to the fire with the oil and while it acquires heat we will beat the eggs in a bowl. When the oil is ready, we will pass the slices of bread through the egg and put them to fry until they are golden brown on both sides. When we take them out we will put them in an absorbent paper so they do not remain oily.
The last step is to put the remaining half of the sugar in a dish with the teaspoon of cinnamon and we will pass the bread toasts for that mixture to give them an excellent flavor. Usually they are eaten hot, although at room temperature they also taste delicious. It is a very easy dessert to make, it is very cheap and everyone likes it. Do you dare to do them?
