Green spaces have always been places where we feel good and both our body and our mind relax. Who has not had that feeling when making a trip to the mountains, walking in a park or enjoying their garden? Not only does it allow us to relax and feel good, but it can also prevent mental problems, especially in children.
The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that there are about 450 million people who have some kind of mental disorder, a number that will increase according to their estimates. This is something that can be stopped since childhood, according to a study from the University of Aarhus, Denmark,
This study ensures that children who grow up in green spaces can have better mental health when they are adults. Remember the importance of designing green cities with a view to the future as well as the need to have green areas close to children’s homes. They mapped this idea with approximately one million Danes and compared the data with a result of 55% less risk of suffering one of the 16 mental disorders.
It is not a small number, but it is very important, which has led to this study being presented in the well-known scientific journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Researchers know that a greater amount of green spaces within the local area, can create better social cohesion, increasing the level of physical activity of people, improving even something as important as the cognitive development of children.
There is no doubt, there is a close relationship between green spaces and mental disorders. Natural environments play a very important role in our lives, much more than we thought.
