It is always nice to take refuge in the shade of an awning when the heat is tight and the sun’s rays are strong on summer days. Although at any time of year we can enjoy it.
To take a suitable maintenance of the awning will be very advisable so that this always presents/displays a good state, as much in its aesthetic aspect as functional.
Let’s see how we can properly change the canvas of an old awning:
1. Dismantle the awning
We’ll remove the shaft and gear cover. This will allow us to see the inside comfortably, and thus we will be able to carry out all the necessary subsequent manoeuvres, without having to suffer from the danger of breaking any of the parts.
2. Removal of the old canvas
Once the primary structure is open, we will put the clean seam area upside down. Next, we will remove the fixing screw, so that we can completely remove the fabric we are going to replace.
3. Installing the new canvas
Before installing this new tarpaulin, all parts of the awning should be thoroughly cleaned. This will ensure that damage is avoided in the near future and will increase the life of the awning.
Once the previous step has been completed, the new cover will be inserted into the slot of the roll-up bar. We will then slide the fabric all the way in.
4. Reassembling the awning
It’s time to put back all the pieces we’ve been taking out. It will be essential that we install the screw that we had removed at the beginning, in order to fix the new tarp.
We will put the cover of the shaft and the gear, and so we will recover the functionality of our awning again.
A pleasant renewed aesthetic aspect, as well as the good performance of its function, will be the reward for our effort.
