World Energy Saving Day is celebrated every year on 21 October as a way of raising awareness among the general public about the rational and efficient use of energy. This event first occurred during the World Energy Forum held in Dubai in 2012, and since then it has been present in our calendar to remind us of the importance of energy access and its long-term sustainability.
Similarly, World Energy Saving Day promotes the transformation of energy consumption and use habits, establishing more rational and conscious parameters that allow us to reduce the impact on the environment.
In this context, 21 October represents a real paradigm shift, as it maintains its focus on raising awareness to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and greenhouse gases, as well as promoting the use of clean and renewable energy such as solar, hydroelectric, wind, biomass, biogas, geothermal, among others.
In addition to sponsoring renewable energy, World Energy Saving Day promotes the reduction of energy consumption of any kind, since in general, the planet’s energy production tends to grow, bringing as a consequence a significant increase in its environmental impact.
Saving energy is a great way to help mitigate the impact it has on the environment, so here are some simple actions you can take every day:
– Use as much sunlight as possible, open curtains and blinds to let in light from outside.
– Turn off all equipment that you are not using, such as TV, radio, computer, video players, lamps, etc.
– Adjust the temperature levels of air conditioning or heating.
– Buy energy-efficient appliances.
– Use public transport or a bicycle instead of a private car.
– Defrost food in the environment and try not to use the microwave.
– Use LED bulbs or energy saving lamps.
TOLDOS GUARDAMAR, also recommends you:
ON HOT DAYS: Unfold the awnings during the time that the sun shines on your terraces and windows, and fold it during the night to allow the air to pass through and cool your home. This way your air conditioning equipment will cool faster and save energy.
ON COLD DAYS: You should keep your awning retracted during the day and unfold it at night to protect your doors and windows from the direct impact of the cold wind, thus keeping your home warmer and reducing the time you need to use the heating.
By doing this, you will be making a significant contribution to the planet earth and you will be part of the solution to the serious energy problem, and your pocket will thank you too.
