November 20 is an important day for children for several reasons. International Children’s Day has been celebrated since 1954, but it is also the Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of the Rights of the Child, which took place in 1959. And that same day in 1989, the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the most universal, was approved. of international treaties.
The Convention on the Rights of the Child establishes a series of rights, including those related to life, health, education, and the right to play, to family life, to be protected from violence, not to be discriminated against since their opinions are heard.
Despite this, 385 million children live in extreme poverty, 264 million are not in school, and 5.6 million children under the age of five died last year from preventable causes.
Universal Children’s Day or World Children’s Day serves to educate the population around the world that children are the most vulnerable group, especially in situations of crisis and problems. This world day remembers that children have the right to be safe, protected, have the right to health and education, regardless of where they were born.
For Toldos Guardamar, this day is a great opportunity to raise awareness in schools and in society in general that childhood is an unrepeatable and crucial stage of life, and that it is in those early years that they develop as people. What they are as adults will be marked by those first years. Let’s think that we were all children once.
