On September 22, the World car-free day is celebrated and Toldos Guardamar wants to celebrate it by inviting reflection on the future and a clear commitment to renewable energy. We have already started to make some changes, for example, replacing some diesel vehicles with hybrids. And that is just the beginning.
From the oil crisis of 1973 the first ideas began to appear to discourage the use of the car and promote more efficient means of transport. However, it was not until October 1994 that the first car-free days were organized. Initially the cities of Reykjavik (Iceland), La Rochelle (France) and Bath (UK) took the initiative to implement Car Free Day. And as a nationwide campaign, the first country to implement it was Great Britain in 1997.
In 2000 it was constituted as an initiative by the European Commission. The same year is taken as a world day and is implemented in Europe, extending the activities for one week (“mobility week”).
We know that a single day does not change things much, but it is a good start. On that day you can do it by walking, cycling or taking public transport, if you do not have a hybrid or electric car. Those electric skates are also in fashion now, and if we all took an example, at least that day it would be a little cleaner and also, why not, funny.
