Toldos Guardamar against the indiscriminate hunting of these friendly aquatic mammals that continues to occur in some parts of the world.
On July 23, 1986 the International Whaling Commission (IWC) decided to proclaim that day as World Day Against Whaling, today known as World Whale and Dolphin Day. The purpose of this date is to stop the indiscriminate and tortuous hunting of these beautiful animals in danger of extinction.
However, even though 34 years have passed since that historic meeting, there are still many countries that persist in hunting these aquatic mammals and what is worse, they do not seem to care. In reality, the problem lies in the fact that there are an equal number of countries within the IWC that are for and against hunting these specimens, so no formal agreement has ever been reached in this regard. Another important detail is that the countries that hunt them ensure that they do so for scientific and non-commercial purposes, despite the fact that there are many videos in Japan showing the massacres that are carried out on dolphin banks.
History of the world day of whales and dolphins.
The problem with whaling is not new, nor does it date from just 34 years ago. In fact, the first attempts to control whaling were made before the Second World War, when the whalers or hunters realized that the number of whales was rapidly decreasing as they were eliminated, something that put the business at risk. At that time, the League of Nations developed a first document in this regard, but it was not until 1972 at the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment that the first ten-year moratorium was approved where the whaling was stopped, to guarantee that its population increased and thus avoid its extinction.
In Toldos Guardamar we think that we should take care of this beautiful planet, and of all the beings that compose it. If we don’t respect that premise, certain species will be history, and we don’t want that to happen.
