After the Christmas holidays and celebrations, the new year welcomes us with one of the biggest nightmares of modern society: the dreaded January slope.
If we are proactive, and manage to change some of our habits, we can successfully escape its effects.
The January slope is related to the economy, although by extension it also attacks our state of mind. Historically, the increase in prices, fees and charges suffered by citizens at the beginning of each year has been called the January slope.
The last Friday of November is the famous “Black Friday”, where most of the commercial establishments apply discounts to their products. It is the great opportunity to save a lot of money if we bring forward the purchase of toys and gifts for Christmas.
The month of December is the month for company dinners, sports team dinners, friends’ dinners, family dinners, etc. If we manage to reduce this tight social agenda our pockets will thank us when the new year arrives.
It’s not just about cutting costs. We must also reduce as much as possible the intake of large meals and alcohol during the holidays. We force our bodies to eat and drink more than they are used to and we carry the side effects for weeks.
This is one of the most effective preventive measures. A good piggy bank where you can periodically save a certain amount of money can become a pleasant surprise when hard times come.
We must not allow ourselves to be dominated by fear. Every year the January hill comes, and every year we overcome it. We must remain calm and plan everything in advance. If we are clever we may never have to worry about the “terrible” January slope again.
