Grandparents ‘Day or Grandparents’ Day is a commemorative day dedicated to grandparents within the family, which complements Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. This day is celebrated only in some countries, with differences in the denomination, motivation and date. In the countries of Christian culture, July 26 was chosen, as it is the day on which the Catholic liturgy commemorates Saint Joachim and Saint Anne, fathers of the Virgin Mary and, therefore, grandparents of Jesus.
“A grandfather is a person with silver in his hair and gold in his heart.”
The grandparents, basic pillars of all modern families, help us in our daily tasks: they give us a hand with the children, they teach us cooking or saving tricks, they worry that we are also well and happy … And, besides, now that we are adults we find an affinity very close to the friendship impossible to have when we were children and we needed limits and norms for our education and development. For all that, and more, they deserve their Grandparents’ Day.
“Grandma serves kisses, cookies and advice daily.”
Because our parents will always be our parents we remind them of their value for us on Father’s Day and Mother’s Day, but our children also have the right to celebrate with their grandparents all the love that flows between them in a bidirectional way.
From Toldos Guardamar we do not want to see that there are more forgotten grandparents as if they were part of the past. Time can convert us all into grandparents. For this reason we celebrate with them this day, to remind them that they are still that fundamental part of the family.
