Toldos Guardamar warns of the danger of losing bees.

Bees and other pollinators, such as butterflies, bats and hummingbirds, are increasingly threatened by human activities.
Pollinators allow many plants, including many food crops, to reproduce. Pollinators not only contribute directly to food security, but are indispensable when conserving biodiversity, a fundamental pillar for Sustainable Development. They also serve to warn of emerging environmental risks, indicating the health of local ecosystems.

Invasive insects, pesticides, changes in land use and monocultures can reduce available nutrients and pose a threat to bee colonies. To raise awareness about the importance of pollinators, the threats they face and its contribution to sustainable development, the UN declared May 20 as World Bee Day.

Why this date?

May 20 coincides with the birthday of Anton Janša who, in the 18th century, was a pioneer of modern beekeeping in his native Slovenia and praised bees for their ability to work so hard in need of so little attention.

Awnings Guardamar wants to add to the awareness of the importance of protecting bees. 90% of the plants and trees of the entire planet depend on pollinators -as in the case of the bee-, including many of the plants that we use as food. Therefore, it can be said that, if we lose bees, we lose food. Or as Albert Einstein said:

“If the bees disappeared from the face of the earth, man would only have four years of life. No more bees, no more pollination, no more plants, no more animals, … no more men. ”
